ApexCharts Polar Area

A polar-area chart (a Nightingale rose variant) — every category is a wedge with the same angular width but a *radial* extent proportional to its value. The colour ramps around the circle so the eye reads both magnitude (how far out the wedge reaches) and category (which colour).

When to use this template

A polar area chart excels at comparing magnitudes across distinct categories, allowing for quick identification of dominant or outlier categories within a whole. Analysts choose it when they need to present a categorical breakdown with visual impact, where the overall 'shape' of the data provides an immediate, intuitive summary. It helps in understanding the relative contribution of each part to a total, especially when the number of categories is moderate.

  • One quantitative value per category.
  • 5 to 15 distinct, non-hierarchical categories.
  • Values representing parts of a whole or comparable magnitudes.
  • Data where relative comparison of magnitudes is the primary goal.
  • Non-negative values, typically measured on a ratio scale.
  • Categories with no inherent sequential order.
