When to use this template
This visualization highlights how individual entities perform relative to a group average. It quickly reveals which entities are outliers, significantly above or below the mean, and helps understand the overall distribution around a central tendency. An analyst would use it to identify top and bottom performers or to assess the typicality of each entity's value.
- Data with distinct sub-entities and a single overarching aggregate.
- A single quantitative metric measured for each sub-entity.
- A calculated or defined average value for the entire group.
- Numeric data where deviations from a mean are significant.
- Cross-sectional data, or time-series data at a single point.
- Datasets where identifying above/below average performance is key.
