When to use this template

This visualization makes obvious where concentrations of events or entities are highest across a geographic area. An analyst would reach for it to quickly identify hot spots, areas of high activity, or regions with a greater density of a particular phenomenon, without being distracted by individual data points. It effectively reveals underlying spatial patterns and trends that might be obscured in a scatter plot of individual markers.

  • Datasets with numerous individual geographic points.
  • Data where the density of points is more critical than individual locations.
  • Records containing latitude and longitude coordinates.
  • Optional third dimension for weighting point intensity or significance.
  • Large volumes of data points that would clutter a traditional map.
  • Data representing events or phenomena occurring at specific locations.
