Vega-Lite Diverging Likert
A diverging stacked bar chart for Likert-scale survey results — the gold-standard way to visualise 5-point agreement scales. Vega-Lite handles the diverging layout in two transforms: a `joinaggregate` to compute each row's neutral midpoint, then a `calculate` that subtracts the n

When to use this template
This visualization excels at revealing the overall sentiment and distribution of responses across an ordinal scale with a neutral midpoint. It quickly highlights whether a group leans towards agreement or disagreement, or if responses are heavily polarized, making it ideal for assessing collective opinions or satisfaction levels. The diverging layout allows for instant comprehension of positive versus negative leanings.
- Ordinal categorical data with a clear neutral midpoint
- Survey responses using 5- or 7-point Likert scales
- Aggregated counts or percentages for each sentiment category
- Comparing sentiment distributions across multiple distinct groups
- Data where agreement/disagreement is more important than raw counts
- Responses from a single question or item, broken down by segments
